Transition Networks Inc. has announced the expansion of its vast industrial portfolio with the introduction of a new GL-Certified Industrial Managed switch. The addition of a GL-certified fully managed industrial Ethernet switch enables customers to safely and reliably deploy Ethernet LANs onboard offshore vessels.

Trusted by governments and private industry world-wide, the certification by the independent Germanischer Lloyd (GL) agency ensures a product is safe and will meet performance requirements in a specific marine application. For Transition Networks’ SISTM1040-262E-LRT, the GL certification coupled with the product’s existing UL Class 1 Div 2 Certification for use in hazardous locations assures customers the product can be used on ships, offshore oil rigs, refineries and other marine applications without risk of interfering with other equipment or igniting hazardous fumes. In particular, GL certification ensures Transition Networks’ SISTM1040-262E-LRT will not interfere with shipboard radio communications.

“Transition is committed to providing fiber connectivity for any environment — on and off land,” said Patrick Schaber, Director of Marketing at Transition Networks. “By certifying our high port-count, fully managed, Industrial Ethernet SISTM1040-262E-LRT through Germanischer Lloyd, we are able to take our top-quality products to the sea. Our customers are assured the switch can be deployed in their marine applications with confidence.”

16-Port Industrial Managed Switch with Redundant Gigabit Fiber Uplinks The SISTM1040-162E-LRT is a ruggedized, fully managed switch that is designed to provide high availability dual-speed fiber connectivity to network devices that may be located in remote harsh environments and severe temperatures including: outdoor, factory floor, and, now with the GL certification, marine/offshore locations. It has 16 x 10/100Base-TX RJ-45 ports plus 2 x 10/100/1000Base-T RJ-45 or 100/1000Base-X SFP combo ports. All of the RJ-45 ports support Auto-negotiation and AutoCrossTM (auto MDI/MDI-X), while the SFP ports support both 100Base-FX and 1000Base-X SFP optics.

Software features include support for IEEE 802.1Q VLANs, IEEE 802.1P Class of Service, IGMP for Multi Media applications, X-ring, Dual Homing, Couple and Dual Ring Topologies providing redundant backup and recovery times below 20 milliseconds. The switch can be managed via Telnet and Command-Line interfaces as well as through its built-in Web interface. Support for industry standard SNMP v1/v2c/v3 ensures manageability through third-party open management software packages.

Remote firmware upgrade capability, via the industry standard TFTP protocol, enables future software enhancements. This, coupled with the product’s multi-speed, Gigabit-capable network ports and Transition Network’s exclusive lifetime warranty, ensures the switch can become a building block in industrial networks designed for the long-term and for future migration to higher performance.

Offered in an operating temperature range of -40 degreesC to +75 degreesC, this switch also provides dual, redundant, auto-sensing 12 – 48VDC power inputs with reverse polarity power input protection and overload current protection, as well as a relay contact output circuit for controlling external alarms. DIN-rail and wall mount brackets are included as standard.
